I have a confession. I could not find our Elf on the Shelf anywhere. I scoured the Christmas boxes and anywhere else I may have tucked him away.
The girls were getting desperate. Worried about where their precious Elf was. So I finally broke down and ordered another Elf on the Shelf. This time I decided to get the girl elf with the sparkly skirt.
I figured the girls would probably notice that a new boy elf was much cleaner than the old one, and I had a whole elaborate story planned for how it was Zoke's sister (Zoke is what they named the elf). However, there was a huge mix-up with shipping (I don't even want to get started on that one!), and I found our “old” elf while the package was still in transit.
So I dodged a bullet, even though our elf arrived later than planned. Last year, our Elf was really naughty, and the girls thought that was hilarious. This year, I think our elves should be stewards of the Earth.
If you're a natural living family like us, I hope you'll enjoy these ideas for making your Elf on the Shelf more crunchy.
Say No to GMO Elf
This would be a really great setup to do after watching GMO OMG. That movie has a GMO free message even kids could relate to, and your elf could help reinforce that!
Let your elf help reinforce the importance of recyclying this year. You can simply paint a recycling symbol on a wipes container or something similar and you're set!
Natural Cleaning Elf
Is it time to mix up some more of your own cleaning products? Use that as an opportunity to stage this cute scene with your Elf on the Shelf.
Water Saving Elf
We're in a huge drought in California, and our girls are well aware of it. Every day we drive by the lake and notice the water level is lower and lower. They love stuff like this!
Living in the mountains, we LOVE the outdoors. You can set up your Elf somewhere near the fireplace having his or her own camp out. Super fun for the kids!
