Do you wish your skin had a bright and healthy glow? Learn about 5 natural ingredients that can help you brighten your skin and keep it looking young.
Taking good care of your skin is super duper important since there are so many factors in our daily lives that can negatively impact its health. Everything from pollution to toxic makeup, eating unhealthy foods to stress and so much more.
All of these factors – some controllable and others uncontrollable – can lead to many side effects such as acne, red spots, dry skin and even fine lines and wrinkles. By simply learning how to take care of your skin, you can eliminate these negative results so your skin will feel smooth and look healthy, glowing and bright.
There are many natural ingredients that can help improve the appearance of your skin. Check out these five natural ways to brighten your skin for a glowingly flawless, healthy appearance.
1. Lemon Juice
The acidic properties of lemon juice can do wonders for your skin. The acidity helps to cleanse the pores, exfoliate the skin, reduce the frequency of pimples and blackheads. This tangy fruit juice is also loaded with nutrients and antioxidants that help to reduce the appearance of red spots and darker spots, so you end up with an overall brighter complexion.
You can apply lemon juice directly to the skin using a cloth or cotton ball. Be sure you’re cautious when you use pure lemon juice because the high acidity can irritate some peoples’ skin. For a less potent mixture, combine the lemon juice with some filtered water or make a brightening honey lemon face mask and apply that. It’s soothing to the skin too!
2. Green Tea
Green tea has many well known health benefits, such as its ability to aid in weight loss, strengthen hair, increase energy levels and more. But did you know that it can also help you maintain healthy skin?
The antioxidants in green tea can help reduce bacteria in pores, decrease inflammation, reduce acne and soothe skin issues like rosacea. Green tea can also help get rid of dead skin cells and promote healthy cells, leading to smooth and younger-looking skin.
You can apply soaked green tea bags directly to dark spots, but there are also many homemade options that can serve as simple face masks. Some common ingredients that can be used to make a mask include water, oils, aloe, turmeric, sugar, banana, and more, all of which can be blended with green tea leaves to maximize benefits.

3. Aloe Vera
Most people know that aloe vera is useful for soothing skin after a long day in the sun, resulting in a sunburn (like in this sunburn relief spray). But, did you know it has many other benefits that can help naturally brighten your skin?
Aloe can help to reduce hyperpigmentation (dark spots) on the face and other parts of the body thanks to its moisturizing and purifying qualities. The enzymes, vitamins, acids and other properties in the aloe plant’s gel help fight skin infection and can help reduce redness and inflammation.
Aloe vera in its original form comes in a gel substance from the aloe plant. You will find aloe vera in a variety of beauty products, but you can apply the gel to any part of your body directly from the plant if you have access to one.
I usually buy pure aloe vera gel. It’s great for upset tummies and homemade beauty recipes like my Frankincense Whipped Face Cream. It includes some essential oils that also help with brightening, so you may want to give that recipe a try.
4. Epsom Salts
I’m a huge fan of Epsom salts because they have so many uses. Did you know that Epsom salts (and similar magnesium products) can help to exfoliate and draw toxins out of your skin, leaving it feeling and looking smooth and healthy?
Epsom salts can reduce redness and inflammation and it even has cleansing properties that help to soothe itchy skin and keep skin healthy. For anyone that has atopic dermatitis, or eczema (like me), Epsom salt can be particularly helpful in reducing irritation and lessening the redness of the area.
For a simple Epsom salts bath, add one to two cups of the salt to a warm bath and soak in the water. Depending on the condition of your skin, a relaxing bath with Epsom salt can be taken anywhere from once to a few times a week.

5. Coconut Oil
I know I’ll find coconut oil in the pantries of most of you reading this article (except those of you with an allergy). I love coconut oil for the skin because it works well with many different skin types since it offers such a wide range of benefits.
Coconut oil has both moisturizing and cleansing properties, and it can help to strengthen skin, protect against sunburn and reduce irritation. That’s why it works so well to help relieve dry, flaky skin. Not only can coconut oil help to protect skin, it can also nourish it below the surface, which provides a simple way to help you achieve a healthy, bright look to your skin.
To use this natural remedy, simply rub a small amount onto your face and/or body. You may feel a bit oily right after you apply it, but if you’re patient, the oils will absorb into your skin. You can also add coconut oil to face masks and other homemade beauty products for a healthy boost for your skin.
I like to make coconut oil bath melts to add to my baths. They smell yummy and my skin is so soft afterwards. Then I like to use a natural body butter to lock in the moisture after the bath.
Pollutants, skin issues and other facts of life can take a negative toll on the skin, which is why it’s so important to ensure that we do everything we can to keep it healthy and looking as young as possible. I hope you got some ideas on ways to use these natural ingredients to help you keep your skin healthy, bright and glowing.
