Are your kids as excited to stay up until midnight for New Year’s Eve as mine? You can make it even more special with this fun DIY Party Poppers craft for kids.
As a kid, New Year’s Eve was probably the most exciting holiday of the year. It was the one and only time that we were allowed to stay up past midnight!
I grew up in a time where it was expected that there would be a ton of noise made at midnight on New Year’s Eve. My parents let us get out the pots and pans and beat them with spoons out front. We were allowed to yell and scream as much as we wanted – but only at midnight.
While making so much noise on New Year’s Eve doesn’t seem to be socially acceptable these days, at least not where we live, that doesn’t mean you can’t make New Year’s Eve a memorable experience for your kids.
One super fun craft you can do with your kids to get prepared for New Year’s Eve is this fun DIY Party Poppers craft for kids. The kids absolutely love bursting them open at midnight. And, hey, it will give you an excuse to have the kids clean up the house the next day.
So if you’re looking for a fun yet simple New Year’s Eve craft for kids, try making these colorful DIY Party Poppers!

DIY Party Poppers Craft for Kids
Supplies
- 4 empty toilet paper tubes
- Tissue paper 4 assorted colors
- Gift wrap ribbon gold and silver
- Sequins multi-color
Tools
Instructions
- Cut tiny squares of tissue paper of each color. I cut about ½ inch strips, piled them on top each other, and then cut tiny squares from them. Cut as much as you would like depending on how full you want to fill your tubes.
- Cut 3 squares of each color of tissue paper that are about 10" x 10", and keep each color in its stack of 3. Cut a toilet paper tube in half (this will allow the person to break it open easier later on) and lay both halves together in the middle of one of the color stacks. Repeat this for the other 3 tubes.
- Roll the paper tightly around the tube so the paper is the same length on each end of the tube. Take a piece of ribbon about 12 inches long and tie it around the paper at one end of the tube so it is closed. Knot the ribbon and curl each end with scissors.
- Fill the tubes about halfway with some metallic confetti and some of the little square confetti you cut.
- Take another piece of ribbon and tie it around the paper at the other end of the tube so it is closed. Knot it and curl each end with scissors.
- Hand out on New Year’s Eve and pull open the poppers and let the confetti fly out when midnight strikes!
