I am a huge fan of cooking meals from scratch. I cook from scratch nearly every single night. However, I know some families face challenges in making that happen even though they’d like to.
Between meal planning, making shopping lists, going shopping, prepping the food and then actually cooking it – it can really add up if you’re short on time already. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of picking up take out.
I was recently introduced to a new service that takes the hassle out of meal planning, shopping and meal prep – Plated. Ordering your meals from Plated is easy. You simply go on their website, select which meals from their menu you’d like and they ship all of the ingredients to your door.
I love that Plated sources as many of their ingredients from local providers as they can, and they always try to choose seasonal produce. I have noticed they also choose a lot of organic produce. Their seafood comes from Sea to Table, so you know it’s sustainably sourced. I would love to see them make a commitment to non-GMO ingredients and perhaps even offer all organic dish options.
Each meal includes easy to follow instructions with pictures, so even the novice chef can follow along. Everything is pre-measured for you and the portions are huge. Even though I only ordered 2 plates of each meal, it was plenty for Zoë, Kaylee and I, and we even had leftovers for some of the meals.
The meals are priced at $15 per plate, but if you sign up for a subscription, the price is lowered to $12 per plate. If you factor in how much time you’d spend looking for new recipes, making shopping lists, going shopping and going home to cook, the price is reasonable.
Even though I cook from scratch now, I love that these recipes challenged me to try new things – some of which I’d been wanting to try for a while.
Mushroom-Crusted Flatiron Steak with Cauliflower Mash
I’d been wanting to try making cauliflower mash for quite some time, but had never found the time to do it. This meal pushed me to do it, and I love how they turned out made with cauliflower and turnips. The girls didn’t like the chives added to it, but I love chives. The steak was also good.
Harissa Butter-Basted Redfish with Crispy Kale and Polenta
I had never even heard of harissa before, so I was excited to try this. Word of warning, harissa is extraordinarily spicy. The girls couldn’t tolerate it, so next time I’d cut back on how much I used. They ate up the kale though – it was almost like kale chips for dinner!
Tostones with Spiced Beans and Rice
I’d always been curious about cooking plantains, but had never tried it. It was much easier than I was expecting! By the time I made this meal, the plantains were quite ripe, so they were pretty sweet. The girls didn’t like them, but I like how the sweet flavor went with the spiced beans and rice.
I was really happy with the meals I received from Plated, and would recommend the service to anyone short on time look to cooking more meals at home. The quality is good and it’s so convenient.
Plated is extending a great deal to my readers! You can learn more about this special offer on the Plated website.
