Homemade sunscreen bars

Make Your Own Sunscreen Bars

Most sunscreens expire before we use the whole tube, so the idea of sunscreen bars became very appealing. Since they are not water-based (or aloe-based), they have a longer shelf life.

Plus these natural sunscreen bars are easier to make than you may think with a handful of common ingredients and zinc oxide.

– ¼ cup shea butter – ¼ cup beeswax pastilles – ½ cup coconut oil – 1 tbsp vitamin E oil – 1 tbsp sweet almond oil – 10 drops lavender oil – 3 tbsp zinc oxide powder

How to make  Your Own Sunscreen Bars

1

Melt Ingredients

Add shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax to a double boiler over medium heat, and stir frequently until it’s melted and clear.

2

Add the Oils

Remove the pan from the heat, then stir the vitamin E oil and sweet almond oil into the melted ingredients until they're well combined.

3

Add the Lavender Oil

Carefully add the lavender essential oil, then stir until it's well combined.

4

Add the Zinc Oxide

Whisk in the zinc oxide, slowly and carefully. It’s best to wear a face mask while you do this step so you don’t inhale it.
