Clearly Filtered Water Pitcher Review

If you’re looking for the best water filter pitcher, read my Clearly Filtered review. The filtration materials captures 365 contaminants, far more than a Brita and the water tastes amazing because of it.

I’ve used a Berkey Water Filter to purify my drinking water for over a decade. Don’t get me wrong, I love it and it’s an amazing water filter. But it takes up so much space on my counter and it’s so hard to get replacement filters these days because of the issues between Berkey and the EPA.

Since we’re living in San Diego again and it gets so hot during the summer, I wanted to invest in a good water filter pitcher that I could keep in the fridge – cold water is amazing on a hot day!

So I started digging into the research on water filter pitchers and it seems like so many of them use filtration technology that only removes things like chlorine to make the water taste better. Very few actually remove things like heavy metals and fluoride.

Then I came across Clearly Filtered. These pitcher filters are more expensive than the Brita filters I purchased for a secondhand Brita pitcher I was given, but I quickly realized there was a good reason why, so I became an affiliate so I could earn a small commission by sharing my opinions with you.

The filtration material captures 73x more potentially harmful substances in the Clearly Filtered product than typical store-bought filters. These claims are independently tested at a 3rd party lab, which was reassuring.

I decided to invest in a Clearly Filtered pitcher so I could see if it was actually worth it. Since they offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee, I figured it was low risk and I could return it if I didn’t like it.

The first thing I did after receiving my new Clearly Filtered Water Pitcher was prime the filters. That’s a step you don’t have to do with cheaper filters, but I was used to that step with my Berkey, but this was quicker and easier.

Then I filtered my first pitcher of water. It filtered more slowly than the Brita, which told me it was doing a better job (the instructions say it can take up to 35 minutes to filter a pitcher of water, depending on the water quality).

I poured myself a glass and it tasted so… clean. I could tell an instant difference compared to the water from the Brita filter, no comparison.

Pros and Cons of the Pitcher Design

I don’t love the design of the pitcher itself though. While it is great the way it separates the tap water from the filtered water so you can pour yourself a glass even when it’s still filtering some water, there are a couple of quirks.

First, the pour spout often seals closed in the fridge and, if you don’t notice, you end up pouring water all over the counter. Second, the back half of the pitcher top pops off so you can fill it with water from the sink. That section is hard to get back on perfectly and it’ll fall off the pitcher when you pour a glass of water when it’s not on perfectly.

Other than those two issues, I do like this water filter. I wish they had different designs for pitchers and dispensers you could use the same filters with, so there were other options.

Pros and Cons of the Water Filters

Overall, the filters themselves are great. The Affinity Filtration Technology captures 365+ dangerous contaminants but doesn’t remove healthy minerals like other filtration systems such as reverse osmosis. So I know I’m getting clean water that’s healthy.

They have a 100 gallon filter life. So if your family drinks a gallon of water each day, one pitcher filter will last you over 3 months.

The main con of the filters is the price. If you buy them individually, they’re almost $50 each. A 3-pack runs about $140. If you’re used to buying Brita filters, your jaw probably dropped at the price. But the technology is totally different, so if you want clean water, not just clean-tasting water, it’s worth it. And if you subscribe to receive auto-shipments, you get a discount too.

So is it worth it?

While I do wish they’d slightly re-design the pitcher itself, if I had to decide which water filter pitcher to buy again, I’d choose Clearly Filtered. I still don’t see a higher-quality product out there when it comes to filtration pitchers.
