If you’re anything like us, you are waiting until the last minute to make your child’s school Valentines. I gave my daughter the choice of whether she wanted to buy Valentines for her exchange at school or make them.

She chose to make them, so we had to find something age appropriate for her to work on. We decided upon DIY Heart Envelope Valentines because she loved cutting, writing and drawing. If you have a younger child, you can always help with some of the cutting and folding to save time.

If you’re waiting until the last minute, but still want to make handmade Valentines this year, give this one a try. You can usually get colored construction paper and stickers at the Dollar Store, making this an affordable craft!

However, if you want cards you can just print without the effort, get my free Printable Owl Valentine’s Cards.

Tips for Making Origami Heart Envelopes

Answers to all of your questions about using origami to fold hearts into envelopes for cute yet functional Valentine’s Day cards.

Practice makes perfect

It’s a good idea to do a practice run with scrap paper to perfect the folding technique before using your best paper.

Can I use regular paper instead of construction paper?

Yes, but construction paper is sturdier and holds up better, especially for younger children who might be a bit more hands-on.

Are these envelopes mail-friendly?

These are more suited for hand delivery. If you want to mail them, place them inside a standard envelope for protection.

How big should they be?

That’s up to you. Experiment with different sizes of paper for variety in envelope sizes – great for different-sized gifts or notes.

How long does it take to make one envelope?

It varies, but once you get the hang of it, each envelope can take about 5-10 minutes to make.

Can I use recycled materials?

Absolutely! Feel free to repurpose old gift wrap or magazine pages for an eco-friendly twist.

Is this activity suitable for younger children?

Yes, with supervision and assistance in folding and cutting, younger children can definitely enjoy this craft.
