Our DIY Charcoal Coffee Scrub will leave your skin feeling fresh, smooth and clean.

Charcoal Coffee Scrub and essential oils on a table

Coffee scrubs are a great alternative to the more commonly used sugar scrubs and they work just as effectively to exfoliate your skin and moisturize like a sugar scrub would, but they have the added bonus of smelling like coffee.

This coffee scrub is different entirely from most coffee scrubs because it also contains activated charcoal, which is great for your skin’s overall appearance.

I’ve also added two great essential oils included for a couple of reasons:

  1. Geranium oil is wonderful for the skin and it helps to soothe and calm it.
  2. Lime oil is very cleansing and uplifting.

These two essential oils make for a great combination, and they don’t take away from the uplifting coffee aroma either.

If you’re going to store this coffee scrub for a bit, use fresh, dry coffee grounds. If you’re going to use it immediately, it’s okay to use leftover coffee grounds from coffee maker (or recyclable coffee pods).

Supplies

  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 1 cup coffee grinds
  • 2 teaspoons activated charcoal powder
  • 8 drops geranium essential oil
  • 10 drops lime essential oil

Tools

  • 8 ounce glass jar

Instructions

  • Add your coffee grounds to a good-sized measuring cup or mixing bowl. Only use dry coffee grounds. Wet or used coffee grounds will mold, even if you dry them out in the oven before you use them. Next, add in your coconut oil and essential oils. If the coconut oil is too hard, place the jar in a a bowl of hot water for several minutes to soften it (you don't want it too hot or it'll cook the coffee).

  • Transfer your charcoal coffee scrub to a glass jar for storage using a spoon – it’s a lot less messy than trying to pour it in.

Notes

How to Use Your Charcoal Coffee Scrub

  1. Moisten your skin if you’re not in the shower or bath.
  2. Take a small amount of your charcoal coffee scrub in a your fingers and rub it into the area where you’d like to exfoliate or work on the cellulite. Just keep working it in, along with the water on your skin until the coffee breaks down.
  3. You will have the charcoal stain on your skin for a few minutes, so just work at it with your hands or a wet washcloth and add a little soap if you need to in order to get it all rinsed off your skin.
