Are you looking for an easy no cook play dough recipe for kids? This homemade Silky Smooth Play Dough only needs two ingredients – and you can color it however you’d like!
Now that Zoë is out of school for the summer, I’m already hearing, “I’m bored” more than I’d like and we’re barely a week in. We sat down last week and started making a list of activities we wanted to do together this summer. I figured this would be a good way to get the girls involved in making a plan, and something fun for us to do as a family.
The girls love anything crafty and hands on, so a lot of those types of activities are making it onto our list. I have made non-toxic play dough in the past, but now that the girls are past the putting-stuff-in-their-mouth-constantly phase, I can be a little more flexible about the ingredients we use in homemade play dough.
This particular recipe for silky smooth play dough only uses 2 simple ingredients (3 if you want colors) that are commonly found in most households. It’s super fun, and has a unique fluffy texture to it.
The girls always have fun mixing it up and playing with it. It keeps them busy for a couple hours between making it and playing with it, so I’d say it is well worth the fun. This particular recipe doesn’t have a long shelf life though, so don’t make more than you think your kiddos will play with in a few days.

Supplies
- 1 cup hair conditioner
- 2-3 cups cornstarch
- Food coloring optional

Instructions
- Put the conditioner in a bowl with 2 cups of cornstarch, and mix until well combined. If it's still sticky, add a little more cornstarch at a time until you get the play dough to a consistency you like.
- You can add food coloring to the dough for more variety. We used some natural food coloring, so our dough had very pastel shades.
