Mason Jar of Paprika Chicken Spice Mix

We spice our chickens a variety of ways, but my whole family’s favorite way to have a roasted chicken is with my paprika seasoning recipe. It’s an easy recipe made with simple ingredients, but it’s full of so much flavor.

This versatile chicken rub is great with chicken, veggies and more. Plus, it’s naturally gluten free and dairy free.

One of my favorite things about this recipe is that it makes enough to fill a pint-sized mason jar. Most of my spice mix recipes are calculated to fill a jar this size because it’s a good way to make meal prep easier.

Tips for Making Paprika Seasoning

Answers to all of your questions about making and using paprika seasoning, including tips and recipe ideas.

How to use paprika seasoning

To use, rub the seasoning blend into your chicken pieces and bake or cook as usual. It works with lots of chicken recipes using whole chickens, boneless skinless chicken breasts, boneless skinless chicken thighs, bone-in chicken thighs, chicken legs and chicken wings.

Most often, I use it as a rub on an oven roasted or Instant Pot Whole Chicken. It’s super easy just to coat a chicken with some olive oil and spices and then bake, pressure cook, slow cook or air fry it.

When we’re done with dinner, I usually toss the bones in a crock pot overnight and make chicken stock with them for chicken noodle soup, which I often make with the leftover chicken the next day.

I have also used the seasoning blend on chickens in the crock pot and Instant Pot, and those come out delicious as well! It’s also great on veggies like brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes and more.

Best type of paprika

This is a great recipe because it’s versatile and you can use any type of paprika, depending on your preference. The regular paprika that you find at the store is the most basic in flavor, and I often use that. However this recipe also works great with sweet paprika for a sweeter flavor, smoked paprika for a smoky flavor and Hungarian paprika for a more complex flavor profile.

Spicier option

If you like your chicken a bit spicier, you can simply increase the quantity of cayenne pepper in the recipe. I recommend starting with 1 teaspoon and adding more after you make and taste your seasoning blend until you’ve reached your desired level of heat.

You can also give my Cajun Seasoning recipe a try! Sometimes I like to layer the Paprika Chicken Spice Mix with my Cajun Seasoning to get a medium spice level.

More spice mix recipes

I love making seasoning blends and spice mixes in bulk so they’re ready to go to cook dinner. Here are some of my family’s other favorite recipes:

Where to buy spices

Spices at the grocery store are much more expensive than buying in bulk online. I buy my bulk spices from two places – Starwest Botanicals and Amazon. The price per ounce is so much cheaper than the little bottles from the store and I always have plenty on hand to make my favorite seasoning blends.

Where to buy chicken online

My favorite places to buy chicken online are Perdue Farms and Butcher Box. Perdue Farms is great for one-time orders and Butcher Box is great for monthly orders. They are both great quality.
