Music can be a wonderful growth opportunity for kids. It’s a way for them to express themselves and let their creativity shine. Unfortunately, it’s being taken out of far too many schools. Luckily we homeschool so we have more options!

Playing instruments wasn’t really encouraged a whole lot while I was growing up, even though I played the flute for three years in school. So when I met my husband, who is a musician, all of that was turned upside down.

For my husband, music has been an integral part of his life. He taught himself to play the guitar, and I’ve watched him teach himself how to play the keyboard, bass and drums. He has a gift with music.

Not everyone can teach themselves to play by ear though. So we’ve been looking for something a bit more structured to get our daughters involved in music.

They’ve had their very own kid-sized acoustic guitars for a few years. They both recently got ukuleles too. We have a kid-sized drum kit, djembe drums, a keyboard, a cello and a huge assortment of other guitars in our living room. So they have every opportunity to learn practically any instrument they want.

Did you know that kids who learn guitar do well socially? They’re more confident, develop coordination and math skills, concentration and more. So we really wanted to start them off with some guitar lessons.

Fender recently gave us access to Fender Play, an online system for learning to play guitar, to help us get them going in the right direction. It’s a super simple system that teaches new guitar players to get playing in mere minutes.

Fender Play online guitar lessons offers hundred of instructional videos and hands-on exercises to help anyone learn something new – skills, riffs and even songs.

You can choose your lessons for either an electric or acoustic guitar as well as choosing your musical preference – Rock, Blues, Country, Folk or Pop.

My husband has owned a custom Fender electric guitar for years. It’s his baby – and the girls love it too.

And the Fender Sonoran acoustic guitar that Fender gifted us with has been a great addition to their online guitar lessons.

I really like that the lessons are offered in a split-screen view, so you can see multiple angles up close. It really helps to see things from different angles if you’re new to playing guitar. The girls said it’s really helpful.

The online guitar lessons go step by step, and you can jump in and learn something no matter where your skills are. While Fender Play is wonderful for homeschoolers, it’s also great for anyone who is interested in learning to play the guitar at home.

I love that you can get a FREE 30-Day Trial of Fender Play to make sure it’s right for you before investing in the system. If you’re serious about learning guitar, you’ll see how great Fender Play is pretty quickly though.

We decided to use Fender Play as a supplement to our homeschool curriculum. We do still homeschool on a smaller scale over the summer months, so this was perfect for us!

The girls really liked how the lessons worked. They were able to learn some new skills on the guitar pretty quickly. I’m excited to see how they progress in the coming months.

If you or your child wants to learn to play the guitar, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial of Fender Play here. If you like it, consider adding it to your homeschool curriculum!
