Tips & Ways to Use Everything Bagel Seasoning
1. Don’t Have All the Ingredients?
This is one seasoning blend where you don’t want to make a lot of substitutions. Be sure you’re using dehydrated minced garlic and onion – not garlic powder or onion powder.
You really want the texture you get from sea salt flakes in this recipe. You can use coarse pink salt or kosher salt if you don’t have access to flakes, but it’s not the same.
The only ingredient that it’s really totally okay to omit is the fennel. If you’re after a copycat Trader Joe recipe, you’ll want to omit that one anyways.
2. How to Use Everything Bagel Seasoning?
While it may not seem like it, this is an incredibly versatile blend. If you’re wondering what else to put this everything bagel spice blend on, here are some of my favorite ways to use it:
- Avocado toast
- Instant Pot Egg Bites
- Hard boiled eggs or potato salad
- Baked or mashed potatoes
- Cheese balls
- Instant Pot Chicken Breasts
- Cream cheese dip for veggies
- Gluten Free Meatloaf
- Homemade bread or everything bagels
- Soups like cauliflower and baked potato
- Sprinkled over French fries, popcorn or roasted veggies
- Coating for chicken tenders or nuggets
- Mixed into cottage cheese
3. Storing Homemade Spice Mixes
I always store my homemade spice mixes in quart or pint sized mason jars since we do buy spices in bulk, but any airtight container will work.
Be sure to store them in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight for optimal freshness and mark any relevant expiration dates on the jars for reference.
4. Difference between colors of sesame seeds?
White sesame seeds normally have the hulls removed whereas the hull is left on black sesame seeds. The hull gives black sesame seeds and earthier, nuttier taste than their counterparts.
While I prefer the simplicity of white sesame seeds in this recipe (and they’re the more traditional choice), either will work.
5. Best place to buy bulk spices?
I buy all of my spices in bulk because I make all of our seasoning blends from scratch. Starwest Botanicals has great prices on bulk spices, so that’s who I source most of my spices and seasonings from to make my own mixes.
6. Stocking your spice cabinet with homemade blends.
If you want to make more of your own seasoning blends using simple ingredients for your spice cabinet, these are popular choices:
7. Where to Buy Everything Bagel Seasoning?
